Tottenham Hotspur's Brad Friedel: 'Emmanuel Adebayor isn't a bad lad'

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Brad Friedel insists that Emmanuel Adebayor is "not a bad lad", despite falling out of favour with the fans.

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Brad Friedel has rejected suggestions that Emmanuel Adebayor is a disruptive influence in the dressing room.

The Togolese forward has fallen out of favour with the supporters following poor performances and his previous criticism of the fans.

Adebayor was also reportedly close to joining West Ham United on transfer deadline day on Monday, but Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is said to have blocked the move.

"Emmanuel Adebayor is a very big character," Friedel told talkSPORT. "He's got a very strong ego and he can deal with [the booing] but I do agree with what [manager Mauricio Pochettino] was saying. [Booing] does bring a negative energy.

"A lot of people want a far sexier story than it actually is. Adebayor is not a bad lad. He's not bad around the training ground. He causes no issues whatsoever to any of the staff or the players."

The 30-year-old moved to White Hart Lane from Manchester City in 2012.
