Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour is confused by the news that Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane is up for BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour has been left baffled by the inclusion of Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane in the shortlist for BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

The England international, who is yet to win a trophy for club or country, made the 12-person list of nominees.

The striker joins world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua, four-time Olympic champion Mo Farah and recently-crowned Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton.

On the pitch, Kane has won back-to-back Golden Boots for being the Premier League's top scorer for two seasons running, but Parlour cannot fathom how the Tottenham forward deserves the BBC award.

"I'm surprised Harry is on it," Parlour told talkSPORT. "He hasn't won the Premier League or gone to the World Cup and scored the winning goal or anything like that.

"You can't go against Anthony Joshua as favourite and Mo Farah has got a chance as well. But would you have Harry Kane on there?"

So far in 2017, the striker has scored 47 goals in 45 games both domestically and internationally.
