Former RB Leipzig and Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick encourages Julian Nagelsmann to take the Tottenham Hotspur job after pulling out of the Chelsea race.

Former RB Leipzig and Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick believes that Julian Nagelsmann would benefit from taking charge of an "exciting club" like Tottenham Hotspur.

The 35-year-old is one of the hottest properties on the managerial market after his surprise sacking from Bayern Munich last month, spending under two seasons in charge of the German champions.

Chelsea were initially expected to hire Nagelsmann as their new head coach to replace Graham Potter, but the German is now understood to have pulled out of the race as Mauricio Pochettino closes in on the Stamford Bridge job.

Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain could also try their luck with Nagelsmann this summer should they part ways with Carlo Ancelotti and Christophe Galtier respectively, but Spurs are now understood to be the frontrunners for his services.

Rangnick and Nagelsmann forged a successful relationship during their time together at Leipzig, where the former served as both manager and sporting director for a brief period of time before departing in 2020.

The 64-year-old - who is now in charge of the Austria national team - recently told Sky Deutschland that Nagelsmann should give consideration to the Tottenham job, having been left impressed with the North London club's modern infrastructure.

"I think Tottenham is an exciting club in many ways. They probably have one of the most modern, beautiful stadiums in the world at the moment," Rangnick replied when questioned on whether Nagelsmann ought to choose Tottenham as his next club.

"They have one of the best training centres that is there at the moment, and Daniel Levy, who has been leading the club for many, many years."

Following Antonio Conte's exit by mutual consent last month, Tottenham surprisingly kept his former assistant Cristian Stellini on the books, promoting the 48-year-old to the role of acting head coach.

However, Stellini lasted just 29 days before being sacked after a disastrous period in charge, which ended with a 6-1 defeat to Newcastle United last weekend, and Ryan Mason will take the reins on an interim basis for the second time.

Tottenham were also caught up in an off-field debacle during Stellini's short-lived reign, as Fabio Paratici resigned as sporting director after failing with an appeal against his 30-month worldwide ban from all footballing activities.

Levy is spearheading Tottenham's manager search as a result, but Rangnick believes that Nagelsmann would benefit from working alongside a sporting director in North London.

"If Tottenham really want him, then I think it would be important if a sporting director was still there to support him. It can be a very, very exciting story," the Austria coach added.

"There is room for improvement, a lot of room for improvement and yet this is not a club where the house expects you to be in the top one or two straight away or three lands."

Nagelsmann is believed to have laid out his transfer demands to Tottenham, whose first game of Mason's second spell in charge comes away to Manchester United on Thursday evening.

Stellini won just one of his four matches in charge of Spurs, who have been left in seventh place in the Premier League table as a result, six points behind the Red Devils in the final Champions League spot having played two games more.
