West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur are charged by the FA for failing to control their players following a late melee in last weekend's game.

West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur have been charged by the Football Association for failing to control their players during last weekend's Premier League derby at the London Stadium.

A scuffle broke out between the London rivals in the closing stages of the encounter, as the Hammers pushed unsuccessfully for an equaliser before losing 3-2 on home turf.

Referee Michael Oliver ended up booking five players, including Andy Carroll, Winston Reid, Andre Ayew, Eric Dier and Fernando Llorente.

The melee occurred after Tottenham players, who were already frustrated by the sending-off of Serge Aurier, protested against a foul from Carroll.

In a statement, the FA said: "West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur have been charged by The FA following their fixture on Saturday (September 23, 2017).

"It is alleged that in or around the 95th minute of the game, both clubs failed to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion. They have until 6pm on September 28, 2017 to respond to the charge."

Both clubs are facing hefty fines as a result of the incident.
