Chris Coleman: 'Gareth Bale can handle Real Madrid move'

Wales boss Chris Coleman is confident that Gareth Bale would be able to handle playing for Real Madrid.

Wales manager Chris Coleman has insisted that Gareth Bale would be able to handle playing for Real Madrid.

The 24-year-old winger, who has been ruled out of Wednesday's friendly against the Republic of Ireland through injury, is reportedly on the verge of a record-breaking move to the Spanish giants from Tottenham Hotspur.

"The best players, the reason they're as good as they are, it's not just because of their talent - it's because of their mentality," Coleman told Sky Sports News.

"They can handle pressure cooker situations and they just take it in their stride. Gareth's got that mentality where he doesn't get carried away.

"If there is a big transfer, he's not the type of player to get carried away with it."

Coleman spent seven months working in Spain in 2007 as manager of Real Sociedad.
