Tim Sherwood 'only after difference maker' in January

Tottenham head coach Tim Sherwood reveals that he will only enter the transfer market in January to buy a player that can improve his starting lineup.

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Tim Sherwood has revealed that he will only dip into the January market to bring in a player that would improve his starting XI.

Spurs have a big squad, having invested £110m on new talent in the summer, and Sherwood feels that it is strong enough to fire the Lillywhites to their aim of Champions League qualification without the aid of any additions.

His current focus is on getting a number of key men back to fitness, although Sherwood does expect the Tottenham board to back him financially if the chance arises for him to buy a potential difference maker.

He told reporters: "I don't think we need players here. We need to get them fit, the ones we have got, and then if anyone springs up who could really make us better, our 11, then possibly we will go in.

"I think the club have always backed their managers and I don't think they will be different with me, but I really think we are fine once we get everyone fit.

'We are just looking in that treatment room and seeing if it can empty a little bit and when it does we can assess what we need and what we might need."

Brazilian midfielders Paulinho and Sandro, as well as central defensive pair Jan Vertonghen and Younes Kaboul are among those currently unavailable to Sherwood, who has won three of four Premier League matches since succeeding Andre Villas-Boas as Spurs manager in December.
