Tottenham Hotspur boss Andre Villas-Boas suggests that the club may give up on permanently signing Emmanuel Adebayor after claiming that the North London outfit have other "options".

Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has hinted that the club could be looking elsewhere for strikers as Emmanuel Adebayor's proposed move to White Hart Lane hits a snag.

The Portuguese boss, who was close to welcoming Adebayor on a permanent basis after agreeing a fee with Manchester City, has claimed that he is open to pushing Jermain Defoe to the top spot once the England international has recovered from the death of his cousin.

"Obviously there was an interest in Adebayor but we have a need first for Jermain [Defoe] to get back from his personal tragedy for the team to have further options in the striker position," said Villas-Boas.

Reports have claimed that Adebayor is currently refusing to take a wage cut.
