Tottenham Hotspur consider offloading Matt Doherty this summer?

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly looking to sell right-back Matt Doherty in the summer transfer window, after failing to make an impact in Jose Mourinho's side.

Tottenham Hotspur could reportedly look to sell right-back Matt Doherty in the summer transfer window.

The Republic of Ireland international only joined Spurs from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a deal worth around £15m last summer, but he has struggled for game time and has failed to make an impact in Jose Mourinho's side.

ESPN reports that the Portuguese manager has doubts as to whether Doherty can be a success at Tottenham and has suggested to the club's hierarchy that they should consider cashing in on the 29-year-old in the summer.

Doherty is determined to fight for his place at Spurs after joining just six months ago and feels he has a lot more to offer in the prime years of his career.

However, his chances could be limited if Mourinho decides to stick with Serge Aurier in his side, while young centre-back Japhet Tanganga and midfielder Moussa Sissoko are also capable of playing at right-back.

Doherty, whose contract runs until June 2024, has featured predominantly in the Europa League, playing 90 minutes in six of their seven matches in the competition, but has only started nine times in the Premier League so far this campaign.
