Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly waiting until later in the season to decide whether to trigger the option-to-buy clause in Timo Werner's loan deal from RB Leipzig.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in triggering the option-to-buy clause in Timo Werner's loan deal, however the Lilywhites want to make a final decision later in the campaign.

After struggling to nail down a starting spot at RB Leipzig during the first part of the campaign, the 28-year-old secured a temporary switch to North London in January.

Due to Son Heung-min's involvement at the Asian Cup with South Korea and Richarlison's spell out due to an injury, Werner has enjoyed plenty of first-team minutes for the Lilywhites.

From eight Premier League appearances so far, the German has scored two goals and provided two assists, finding the net twice in the last three matches.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham have devised their strategy surrounding the future of Werner ahead of the summer window.

The report claims that Ange Postecoglou's side are interested in signing the former Chelsea striker on a permanent deal ahead of the 2024-25 campaign.

However, it is understood that Spurs want to assess Werner's performances before the end of the current campaign before making a concrete decision.

Putting pen to paper on his loan deal in North London at the start of the year, Werner can be bought by the Lilywhites for a fee of £14.5m in the summer.

Having found a decent patch of form since the beginning of March, it is believed that Werner would like to remain at Tottenham past the end of this term.

Focusing on the shorter term, the 76-time international is hoping to perform well for the remainder of the season at Spurs in order to receive a special call-up to the Germany side in June.

Die Mannschaft are the hosts of Euro 2024 this summer, and Werner will be desperate to impress manager Julian Nagelsmann and earn a place in his 23-man squad.

The Spurs loanee has fallen down the pecking order in recent years, with the likes of Kai Havertz, Niclas Fullkrug and Denis Undav preferred in attacking positions.

Following the 3-0 defeat to Fulham prior to the international break, Werner and Tottenham will be aiming to keep their top-four hopes alive as they host relegation-threatened Luton Town on Saturday.
