Jack Butland 'could be back for Stoke City against Manchester City'

Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland could return to action for his side against Manchester City this weekend, according to assistant manager Mark Bowen.

Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland could return to action as soon as this weekend, according to assistant manager Mark Bowen.

The 23-year-old hurt his ankle during training last week, ruling him out of the Potters' 1-1 draw at Middlesbrough last Saturday.

Butland's injury was to the same ankle that he broke during England's 3-2 friendly victory over Germany in March, which forced him to miss Euro 2016.

However, Stoke posted a tweet on social media claiming that the shot-stopper could be in contention for the Premier League clash against Manchester City on Saturday.

Veteran Shay Given deputised for Butland against Boro at the Riverside.
