Mark Hughes hopes Stoke City's luck has changed

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes believes that his side's fortune has changed and that they can now go on a run of form.

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has revealed that the 2-1 win over Manchester United last weekend could be a turning point for his side in terms of their luck on the pitch.

Hughes said that his side have played well in recent weeks but needed a good win in order to get some momentum, which he hopes will turn into more victories over the coming weeks.

"The atmosphere here is always shaped by the results of the previous weekend so obviously we have had a good week," Sky Sports News quotes Hughes as saying. "It was a huge result for us.

"We had been playing, certainly at home, reasonably well but some things had gone against us and we were feeling a little aggrieved by the lack of luck we seemed to be getting. We had a little bit at the weekend. We're boosted by that and hope our luck is changing in the right way.

"We want to try to build on it. It would be disappointing if we couldn't go on some kind of run now. We feel we have the capacity to do that."

Stoke travel to Southampton on Saturday afternoon.
