Mark Hughes: 'We were miles ahead of Southampton'

Stoke City boss Mark Hughes praises his side after their 1-0 win over Southampton.

Mark Hughes has insisted that his team were "miles ahead" of Southampton as Stoke City secured a 1-0 win over Ronald Koeman's side at St Mary's this afternoon.

The Potters, who have now lost only one of their last eight in the league, secured the three points thanks to Bojan Krkic's first-half goal.

"I think in terms of clear-cut chances we were miles ahead of Southampton. I don't think Jack Butland had a save to make and that's illustrative of how well we played - and we broke with real purpose too," Hughes told BBC Sport.

"Southampton are a good team but we coped with everything they have to offer and didn't allow them to show any quality.

"We're delighted - it's an important win for us. We could have finished off more of our chances but overall it was a good performance from us."

The result sees Stoke climb to 10th in the Premier League table, while the Saints fall to eighth.
