Tony Pulis rules Glenn Whelan out of Republic of Ireland duty

Stoke City manager Tony Pulis reveals that he does not expect midfielder Glenn Whelan to play for the Republic of Ireland next week.

Stoke City manager Tony Pulis has revealed that the injury that midfielder Glenn Whelan picked up in the side's 0-0 draw at Liverpool is likely to prevent him from playing for the Republic of Ireland next week.

Whelan was substituted with a hamstring injury after just 20 minutes of Sunday's match and Pulis does not think that Whelan will be fit to play against Germany and the Faroe Islands.

Pulis told the club's official website: "He felt his hamstring again so we no option but to take him off.

"I'm pretty sure that he won't be off playing for Ireland, which will be a huge disappointment to him."

The 28-year-old has scored two goals in 44 appearances for the Republic of Ireland.
