A Salomon Rondon goal gives West Bromwich Albion a 1-0 win against nine-man Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium this afternoon.

A Salomon Rondon goal has given West Bromwich Albion an away win against Stoke City, who were reduced to nine men in the first half.

The Potters dominated the game's early exchanges - Charlie Adam missed an early opportunity, before Mame Biram Diouf produced an headed effort straight at Boaz Myhill.

Stoke were reduced to ten men on 25 minutes, as Ibrahim Afellay was dismissed for pushing Craig Gardner in the face following a challenge.

The hosts continued to dominate possession despite the red card, but were reduced to nine men just five minutes later when Charlie Adam was dismissed.

With a two-man advantage, West Brom began to take control of proceedings, with substitute Rickie Lambert producing a decent effort to test Jack Butland, before Craig Dawson fired an effort from long range straight at the Stoke keeper.

The Baggies took the lead in the third minute of added time through record signing Rondon, who headed past Butland from a right-wing cross.

Rondon almost scored his second after the break, when the Venezuelan headed narrowly over from a James Morrison cross.

The hosts struggled to create chances in the second half, but Xherdan Shaqiri did manage to create an opportunity for himself, only to fire an effort over the bar from inside the penalty area.

Substitute Marko Arnautovic tested Myhill with a decent effort on 74 minutes, before Morrison went straight up the other end of the pitch before firing an effort straight at Butland.

Cristian Gamboa came close to finding a second for the Baggies towards the end of the match, but his effort went harmlessly over the bar.
