Stoke City defender Marc Wilson reveals contract length

Marc Wilson removes doubt over his Stoke City future by revealing that he has three years left on his current contract with the Potters.

Marc Wilson has quashed any talk of his departure from Stoke City by revealing that he signed a five-and-a-half-year contract with the club.

The Stoke Sentinel reports that it was widely assumed the Ireland defender was into the last 12 months of his current deal, causing speculation arose over the defender's long-term future.

However, the player has revealed that he signed what amounts to the longest contract ever penned by a Potters player, while also stating that he has spoken to manager Mark Hughes regarding his future.

"I've got three years left on my contract. I signed a five-and-a-half year contract two-and-a-half years ago, but it never came out," Wilson told the paper.

"I've seen some people say I've got one year left, but that's not true, it's a bit embarrassing. I've got this one and two more left, but of course you never know what happens in football.

"I spoke to the manager, we sat down and had a conversation and he's a fair guy. He sticks with the guys who are doing well for the team and I think there's good competition. It makes everyone work hard to get into the team. I wanted to see where my future lies and he said he wants me to keep working hard, do well in training and get back in the team. There's always a chance to get in, he's good like that."

Wilson, part of the Ireland squad for their upcoming international fixtures, came on as a second-half substitute in Stoke's weekend loss to West Bromwich Albion.
