John O'Shea delighted with Lee Cattermole contract extension

Sunderland captain John O'Shea admits that he was elated with the news that midfielder Lee Cattermole signed a five-year contract extension with the Black Cats.

Sunderland captain John O'Shea has revealed that he was delighted to see that teammate Lee Cattermole penned a contract extension with the club.

The 27-year-old signed a five-year extension to remain with the Black Cats as he entered the final season of his contract at the Stadium of Light.

O'Shea believes that Cattermole's influence makes a huge impact in the dressing room and admits that he relishes playing alongside the midfielder.

He told the club's official website: "You're always a little worried when a player enters his final year because decisions can be made and clubs can come in, but Lee has committed to Sunderland and it is great news for everyone.

"Since I've been at the club he's been fantastic for me, you're always learning from him because of the type of character he is and how he adapts himself around the training ground to keep an eye on everything.

"It is fantastic news for the club and it is an exciting five years to look forward to."

Cattermole joined Sunderland from Wigan Athletic in 2009.
