Gus Poyet: "It's one of the best days of my life"

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet says that avoiding relegation from the Premier League is one of the "best days" of his life.

Gus Poyet has said that today is one of the "best days" of his life after Sunderland secured enough points to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

The Black Cats, who were bottom of the table at Christmas, beat West Bromwich Albion 2-0 this evening to ensure that they will not finish the season in the bottom three.

The manager told BBC Sport: "I don't know if you will see something similar ever again. We are the second team in the Premier League to be bottom at Christmas and stay up.

"With [Manchester] City, Chelsea and [Manchester] United away from home, to be seven points away from safety and to do it with a game to spare is amazing.

"It's been an incredibly difficult season. For moments it looked like we were going down. I will start believing in miracles from now on and it's one of the best days of my life today."

Sunderland face Swansea City in their final game of the campaign on Sunday.
