Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill targets an 'experienced' striker to aid the development of younger players.

Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill has revealed he wants to recruit a new striker to aid Ji Dong-Won and Connor Wickham.

O'Neill has seen Nicklas Bendtnar return to his parent club Arsenal, while Asamoah Gyan has completed a move to Al-Ain, and the former Aston Villa boss is keen to reinforce his striking department.

O'Neill told Goal.com: "I cannot mention specific names but we need to bring in another striker.

"It will be an experienced striker who can help young players like Ji and Connor."

Sunderland finished in thirteenth place in last season's Premier League table.
