Niall Quinn praises "calm" Ashley Williams

Niall Quinn believes that Ashley Williams has the calm authority of a leading Premier League defender after watching him against Tottenham Hotspur this afternoon.

Niall Quinn has heaped praise on Swansea City defender Ashley Williams after awarding him man-of-the-match in today's game against Tottenham Hotspur.

Williams helped keep Swansea in the match until late on at White Hart Lane with a spirited defensive display.

Michael Laudrup's side were eventually undone by a late winner from Jan Vertonghen, but Quinn believes that Williams was the outstanding player on the pitch.

He told Sky Sports News: "He is a real leader and has just come on leaps and bounds since he has stepped into the Premiership.

"I just feel that there is a calmness about him. He has this authority about him and he is assuming authority over how the game is being dictated and how it is being played.

"He put in tackle after tackle and interception after interception - I hope Stockport have the sell-on clause!"

The 28-year-old Wales captain has helped Swansea climb to the top flight since signing from Stockpot for £400,000 in 2008.
