Switzerland winger Xherdan Shaqiri has admitted that he could play for Kosovo in the future should the country of his birth decide to make him captain.
The Gjilan-born player emigrated to Switzerland in 1992, received Swiss citizenship through naturalisation, and has earned over 50 caps for his adopted country since 2010.
However, when asked by The Guardian about the possibility of representing Kosovo, Shaqiri replied: "What if the coach of Kosovo wants me as the captain? Of course, I am thinking about it then."
Because Kosovo is a new affiliate nation, players would be able to switch national teams despite being capped for a different country.
