Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard targets return to USA national team

Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard confirms that he will make himself available for the USA national team following a year-long sabbatical.

Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard has revealed that he intends to earn a place back in the USA national team following a year-long sabbatical.

The 36-year-old, who has been playing in England for 12 years, was given permission to have a break after the 2014 Brazil World Cup.

Once the Gold Cup reaches its conclusion, Howard, who has admitted that he 'misses' international football, will make himself available for selection.

"That is the plan," Howard told Everton TV. "I spoke to coach [Jurgen] Klinsmann and we have had open lines of communication as recently as last week.

"We will speak again after [the Gold Cup] finishes and I will make myself available for selection. We will see where we go from there. I have missed it. It was a tough decision to make. It has been a good break, but all it has done is really fuelled my fire."

Howard could make his return in a friendly against Peru on September 4.
