Brown Ideye: 'Blame me for Alan Irvine sacking'

Resurgent West Brom striker Brown Ideye says that he indirectly got former manager Alan Irvine sacked after failing to justify his £10m price-tag.

In-form West Bromwich Albion striker Brown Ideye has taken responsibility for the sacking of former manager Alan Irvine.

Irvine, who was dismissed in December, splashed out a club-record £10m on the Nigerian last summer but Ideye struggled to justify the figures in a disappointing first six months at The Hawthorns.

However, the 26-year-old has enjoyed a new lease of life under new boss Tony Pulis, netting four in his last three games, and the Baggies striker wishes that he could have hit form prior to Irvine's sacking.

"If I was doing then what I am doing now the whole thing would have been different," he is quoted as saying by The Mirror.

"Unfortunately I can't turn back the hands of time. Alan really did encourage me, but I didn't pick it up fast enough. I'm sorry."

Ideye has six goals in all competitions this season, only one of which came under Irvine.
