West Bromwich Albion fight back to draw with Crystal Palace

West Bromwich Albion fight back from a two-goal half-time deficit to earn a 2-2 draw at home to Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

An injury-time penalty from Saido Berahino has earned West Bromwich Albion a 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace at The Hawthorns.

Alan Irvine's team looked to be heading for defeat after Brede Hangeland and Miles Jedinak had given Palace a half-time advantage, but goals from Victor Anichebe and Berahino ensured that the Baggies recorded their second 2-2 draw of the week.

After a slow start to the game, Crystal Palace began to stamp their authority on proceedings and shortly after the quarter-hour mark, the visitors edged ahead.

Hangeland had a goal-bound header blocked by Joleon Lescott, but the Norwegian reacted fastest to prod the ball into the net from close range.

The Baggies responded brightly, with Craig Gardner and Chris Brunt going close, but as the first half drew to a close, Palace began to reassert themselves on the game and their pressure paid off in added-on time.

Sebastien Pocognoli brought down Yannick Bolasie inside the penalty area, and Jedinak made no mistake in sending Ben Foster the wrong way from the spot.

However, moments after Berahino has forced Julian Speroni into a fingertip save, West Brom halved the deficit when Anichebe headed into the net from close range, but it appeared as though a foul should have been awarded when Speroni had been clattered by Craig Dawson moments prior.

After a four-minute delay in which Speroni received treatment before being replaced by Wayne Hennessey, the Baggies started to build some momentum with Graham Dorrans seeing a shot graze the crossbar.

Bolasie should have done better for Palace after being set up by Jason Puncheon, and he was nearly made to pay when Gardner's 25-yard strike beat Hennessey and cannoned off the woodwork.

West Brom were having the majority of the play but openings inside the penalty area were beginning to dry up as Palace dropped deeper with the game entering the final 10 minutes.

It appeared as though a missed chance from Berahino would be West Brom's last effort on goal, but as the game entered injury time, the home side were awarded the second penalty of the match.

Jedinak needlessly brought down Anichebe inside the penalty area, giving Berahino the chance to beat Hennessey from the spot to earn his team a valuable point to move them into 12th place in the Premier League table.
