Two penalties from Matthew Taylor and Jack Collison give West Ham United a 2-0 win over Burnley in the League Cup

West Ham United have beaten Burnley 2-0 at Turf Moor to go through to the fifth round of the League Cup this evening.

Second-half penalties from Matthew Taylor and Jack Collison were enough for Sam Allardyce's side, who go into the fifth-round draw on Wednesday evening.

With chances few and far between for the visitors, Junior Stanislas had the best opening for the home side when he drilled a shot at goal that was well saved by Adrian after 12 minutes.

Danny Ings then flashed a header wide after 19 minutes following some good approach play from the Clarets.

The Premier League side never really got going in the first period and the home side were unlucky when Sam Vokes headed against the crossbar towards the end of the half.

With 15 minutes remaining Kevin Nolan was brought down inside the area to give Taylor the chance to convert from the spot.

The defender drilled a shot beyond Tom Heaton, before Collison did the same in injury time after he was hauled down by Keith Tracey, who was given a straight red card for the foul.
