West Ham United boss Sam Allardyce hails "terrific comeback" against Stoke City

West Ham United boss Sam Allardyce praises his side for their "terrific comeback" as they rally from two goals down to earn a point against Stoke City.

West Ham United boss Sam Allardyce has hailed his side following their comeback from a two-goal deficit to earn a point against Stoke City in their Premier League clash.

Mark Hughes's side took the lead in the first half through Victor Moses, while Mame Biram Diouf added a second after the break.

The Hammers responded immediately through Enner Valencia and Stewart Downing netted their equaliser in the 73rd minute as they battled back to secured a 2-2 draw at the Britannia Stadium.

Allardyce told BBC Sport: "When you're 2-0 down away from home anywhere in the Premier League, getting anything is a terrific comeback. For us, that's what it had to be.

"I always thought there was a goal in us. We changed the shape of the team and went for it, knowing we'd either lose 3-0 or get it back to 2-1, at which point Stoke might get nervous.

"Stewart Downing scored with his right foot. People think he's all left foot, and he isn't. We moved him into the middle from the wing, and he made a terrific difference."

West Ham are fifth in the Premier League following their draw with the Potters, who drop to 12th.
