Preview: West Ham United vs. Burnley - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Wednesday's Premier League game between West Ham United and Burnley, including team news and predicted lineups.

West Ham United head into Wednesday night's Premier League clash with Burnley having put together a two-match unbeaten streak in the Premier League, results which have moved the club clear of the relegation zone.

The Clarets make the trip the London Stadium also in productive form having registered seven points from their last three outings.

If anyone had offered David Moyes four points from two matches against Chelsea and Newcastle United at the start of last week, the West Ham boss would have accepted it without a second thought.

However, after twice holding a lead at St James' Park on Sunday afternoon, there was a feeling of disappointment as the Hammers only recorded a 2-2 draw.

In the grand scheme of things, West Ham now sit four points clear of the relegation zone with five matches remaining, a scenario which previously seemed unlikely after a run of three straight defeats.

While Moyes will be satisfied with that, the Scot knows that he must keep pushing his under-performing squad, who should not be involved in a scrap at the wrong end of the standings.

With each of the bottom three becoming increasingly desperate for a win, West Ham head into this contest knowing that a chance may arise where maximum points could put them on the brink of safety.

From Burnley's perspective, they have put themselves in a position where they can attack their remaining five matches as they bid to secure a return to the Europa League.

Since their 5-0 defeat away at Manchester City, back-to-back victories have been recorded against Crystal Palace and Watford, followed by a hard-fought draw with Sheffield United.

The upturn in results has left the Clarets just six points adrift of sixth-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers at a time when the teams above them in the standings have fixtures against each other.

Although Burnley still have to go to champions Liverpool, Sean Dyche will feel that there is a window of opportunity to get the club into the mix for sixth position ahead of the weekend's trip to Anfield.

Team News

The short turnaround is likely to lead to both managers considering a number of changes for the fixture in East London.

Having been used off the substitutes' bench at the weekend, West Ham captain Mark Noble is in line to return in midfield, potentially at the expense of Pablo Fornals.

Andriy Yarmolenko could also come into the side in place of Manuel Lanzini, taking up a position on the left flank.

Burnley manager Dyche is expected to recall Chris Wood after his appearance as a substitute on Sunday.

Johan Berg Gundmundsson may get the nod on the right flank, with Erik Pieters dropping down to the bench after a rare outing in midfield.

Ben Mee is again likely to miss out due to a hamstring injury.

West Ham United possible starting lineup:
Fabianski; Fredericks, Diop, Ogbonna, Cresswell; Soucek, Rice, Noble; Bowen, Antonio, Yarmolenko

Burnley possible starting lineup:
Pope; Bardsley, Long, Tarkowski, Taylor; Gudmundsson, Westwood, Brownhill, McNeil; Rodriguez, Wood

We say: West Ham United 1-1 Burnley

While Burnley are in a position where they will only be focused on gaining maximum points, West Ham will be relatively content with simply avoiding defeat. Despite there being goals aplenty in their last two contests, the Hammers are capable of earning an uneventful draw on Wednesday.
