Wigan Athletic chairman: "We want to finish in the top half"

Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan feels that his club are capable of pulling themselves away from a relegation fight this season.

Chairman Dave Whelan believes that Wigan Athletic are capable of finishing within the Premier League's top 10 this season.

The Latics have been involved in relegation battles during recent campaigns and a number of pundits feel that there have not been enough improvements made to suggest that their circumstances will change this year.

However, Whelan is confident that his club will upset the odds over the coming months.

"We've played very well in all of the matches. We've played better than our results show but we're doing all right," he told BBC Radio Manchester. "We're on 11 points and we were nowhere near that last year. We want to finish in the top half and I think we will."

Wigan are currently 14th in the Premier League table.
