Preview: Wigan Athletic vs. Charlton Athletic

Sports Mole previews Friday night's Championship match as both Wigan Athletic and Charlton Athletic go for back-to-back wins for the first time since August.

Two Championship sides who picked up much-needed victories in their last games will look to make it back-to-back wins for the first time since August when Wigan Athletic host Charlton Athletic on Friday night.

Malky Mackay's Wigan won their first match in nine and first of 2015 with a 1-0 triumph at Reading on Tuesday night, while Charlton ended their 13-match winless streak in the league by seeing off Brentford on Saturday.

Wigan's win yesterday gave their hopes of survival a huge boost as Jason Pearce netted the only goal on his debut to move the second-bottom Latics within six points of safety with 15 games of the season to go.

Victory came at a price, though, with Aston Villa loanee Chris Herd suffering a knee ligament injury at the Madejski that could rule him out for the season.

Mackay gave three players their full debuts against the Royals and Pearce, along with loanees Harry Maguire and Sheyi Ojo, will hope to retain their place for the visit of the Addicks.

Wigan haven't won at home since August, losing five of their last six games at the DW Stadium.

Charlton, meanwhile, are 11 points better off than the Latics in 18th place and finally ended their winless streak with a 3-0 win over playoff-chasing Brentford.

It was Guy Luzon's first win in charge and one that took the Addicks six points clear of the bottom three.

Roger Johnson made his debut against Brentford and helped Charlton to just their second clean sheet since November, but has since revealed that he played through the pain of a broken rib on Saturday, so he may have to sit this one out.

Elsewhere, Luzon could decide to stick with the more attack-minded lineup that brought about three goals for just the second time in the league this season.

The home side have won six of the last seven meetings between the two sides, with Charlton claiming a 2-1 victory in the August reverse thanks to Franck Moussa's last-gasp winner.
