Wolves closing in on £2.5m deal for Lyon defender Fernando Marcal?

Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly closing in on a £2.5m deal to sign 31-year-old Lyon defender Fernando Marcal.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Lyon defender Fernando Marcal.

Nuno Espirito Santo's side had been quiet in the transfer market before breaking their club-record signing on Saturday, bringing in Fabio Silva from Porto for £36m.

The Birmingham Mail now report that they have turned their attention to Marcal, who helped Lyon to the semi-finals of the Champions League last season.

The 31-year-old played 25 times for Lyon across all competitions in 2019-20, including during their Champions League triumphs over Juventus and Manchester City.

Marcal has recently followed Wolves on Instagram and added the England flag to his bio, which includes the flags of every country he has played in throughout his career.

The deal taking Marcal, who can play as a left-back or centre-back, to Molineux is expected to be worth around £2.5m.
