Josh Carson has had his loan stint at League Two outfit York City cut short by injury.
The 19-year-old had been due to spend at least another week with York, but he has now returned to his parent club Ipswich Town for treatment on his broken metatarsal.
"He's broken his fifth metatarsal bone in his foot and is going to be out of action for the next six to seven weeks," York manager Nigel Worthington told PA. "It's disappointing, but we have to live with it. I've been in the game long enough to accept that these things happen.
"I'm very disappointed for the boy and ourselves. He's been doing very well for us, but the door opens for someone else now."
The midfielder made a total of five appearances for the Minstermen.
