Tomas Berdych: 'Stanislas Wawrinka's Aussie Open win increased my Grand Slam belief'

Tomas Berdych says that watching Stanislas Wawrinka triumph at the Australian Open has made him feel more confident about his own chances of winning a Grand Slam.

World number seven Tomas Berdych has said that watching Stanislas Wawrinka triumph at last month's Australian Open has made him feel more confident about his own chances of winning a Grand Slam.

Just four different men - Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Andy Murray - won singles titles at majors between 2010 and 2013, but Wawrinka finally broke the big four's monopoly by striking gold in Melbourne.

"Stan showed us that it is possible to win a Grand Slam," 2010 Wimbledon finalist Berdych told reporters. "Grand Slams are difficult to win, but Stan showed it's possible to beat the top guys.

"If you work hard, then everything can click together and you can make it in the end. It isn't only the right of two or three guys.

"Stan's win showed that the top 10 is also extremely tough. I just need to work harder, stay patient and hopefully the results will come."

Djokovic (6), Nadal (13), Federer (17) and Murray (2) have collectively won 38 of the last 43 men's Grand Slam singles events.
