Roger Federer overcomes Nikolay Davydenko in the second round of the Australian Open with ease.

Four-time winner Roger Federer produced an efficient display to overcome Nikolay Davydenko in the second round of the Australian Open on Thursday.

The second seed, whose last Melbourne title came in 2010, came through 6-3 6-4 6-4 in 119 minutes at the Rod Laver Arena.

Federer won a massive 45 of 106 receiving points and did not face a single break point during the entire match.

The Swiss hit nine aces, the last of which came on his first match point.

He will now face home-favourite Bernard Tomic in round three.
