Victoria Azarenka is one step closer to clinching French Open glory as she reached the quarter-finals of the competition courtesy of a 6-3 6-0 victory over Francesca Schiavone.
It was a well-balanced start to the contest in Paris, with games going by the way of serve in the first set, but it was Azarenka who grabbed the first break in the clash.
From that point, the Belarus pro took control of the clay court with her powerful shots to win the opening set, leaving Schiavone with plenty to do.
Securing a break point at the first time of asking for Azarenka enabled her to push on and take a comfortable 3-0 lead, while Schiavone struggled to hold her serve.
It wasn't long before Azarenka wrapped up the set to secure a place in the final eight of the competition.
