Stanislas Wawrinka defeats Gilles Simon in straight sets to progress to the quarter-final of the French Open.

Eighth seed Stanislas Wawrinka has beaten Gilles Simon in straight sets to progress to the quarter-finals of the French Open, with a score of 6-1 6-4 6-2.

Wawrinka broke in game two of the first set, and again in game six as he eased to a one-set lead.

The Swiss then had five chances to break early in the second set, but Simon held serve. He broke serve once again in game five, though.

Simon then broke back to take the score to 4-4, but Wawrinka won the final two games of the second set.

Wawrinka eased to a 6-2 victory in the third set, breaking in games three and seven, before winning match point at the third attempt.
