Roger Federer has described his defeat to Tomas Berdych in the Dubai Championships semi-finals as "unfortunate".

The Swiss world number two squandered three match points before he was beaten by third seed Berdych 3-6 7-6(8) 6-4 on Friday.

"It's obviously unfortunate," said Federer. "It was a pity to lose that one, but Tomas did well to hang in there."

Berdych will now meet Novak Djokovic in Saturday's final following the world number one's straight-sets victory over Juan Martin del Potro.
