Carla-Suarez Navarro sees off the challenge of Nadia Petrova at the Rome International in Italy.

Spain's Carla-Suarez Navarro booked her place in round two of the Rome International thanks to a 3-6 6-2 7-6 victory over Nadia Petrova this evening.

World number 11 Petrova began the encounter brightly and took the opening set thanks to an early break of serve.

However, Navarro's response was positive and she claimed two breaks of her own during the next set to force a decider.

Neither player was able to record a decisive break during the third set and consequently a tie-break was needed to determine who would advance through.

It proved to be straightforward for world number 19 Navarro, who conceded just one point on her way to winning the tie-breaker.
