Fernando Verdasco has seen out a 7-6[4] 7-6[4] 3-6 6-3 victory over Grega Zemlja to ensure the Spaniard a place in the third round at Wimbledon.
The first set was a tight affair between the pair with games going by the way of serve and both competitors launching a number of precise forehand shots and strong returns around the grass court.
A tie-break was needed for the first set to be decided, which Verdasco managed to edge and take a one-set lead in the contest.
Zemlja didn't let the deficit affect him and he managed to hold his serve well in the second set and pushed the contest to another tie-break, but the 25-year-old again failed to overcome his Spanish opponent as Verdasco took a two-set lead.
Despite a comfortable advantage, Verdasco allowed his competitor back into the match and a vital break of serve pushed Zemlja to go on and claim the third set.
While a comeback could have been on the cards for Zemlja, his opponent refused to allow it and was able to find his form in time to take the fourth set and the match.
