Arsene Wenger admits worries over Abou Diaby's fitness

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admits that his side may struggle to cope with the loss of Abou Diaby through injury.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that he is worried by Abou Diaby's latest injury setback.

Diaby was taken off less than 20 minutes into Arsenal's 2-1 home defeat to Chelsea with a thigh problem, and is facing a minimum of three weeks on the sidelines.

Wenger told reporters that Arsenal have ample options in midfield but lack another player with Diaby's physical stature.

He told The Mirror: "Diaby's injury record is not good and I was concerned about him, of course. It was a gamble but I was calculating as well that Jack Wilshere was coming back.

"Francis Coquelin is here but was sick and Emmanuel Frimpong is back, while Tomas Rosicky is coming back. We have many midfield players but don't have many physical players.

"But Mikel Arteta has shown he can be a great defensive midfield player. We'll see overall if it was a good or bad decision at the end of the season."

Arsenal look to bounce back from the Chelsea defeat in midweek when they continue their Champions League campaign against Olympiakos.
