Arsenal defender William Saliba is set to leave the club on loan in January unless Mikel Arteta is sacked by the club, according to a report.

Arsenal outcast William Saliba will reportedly only stay at the Gunners in January if Mikel Arteta is relieved of his duties.

The former Saint-Etienne man is yet to make his competitive debut for the club since arriving in the summer, with Saliba being restricted to appearances for the youth teams this season.

Arteta recently admitted that the Gunners could sanction a temporary exit for Saliba in January, with the Frenchman currently behind the likes of Gabriel, David Luiz, Rob Holding and Shkodran Mustafi in the Emirates pecking order.

However, French outlet L'Equipe claims that a change in manager could see Saliba remain in the English capital, with Arteta's job believed to be under threat.

The Gunners are currently four points clear of the relegation zone under Arteta, but having received public backing from Arsenal chiefs, it is unlikely that the Spaniard will be given the boot in January.

Nevertheless, Saliba and his entourage are expected to hold talks with Arsenal technical director Edu over his future in the coming weeks, and a loan exit in January appears to be the most likely option.
