Arsenal are reportedly intending to hijack Tottenham Hotspur's proposed move for Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu.
The Japan international was thought to have been on the brink of a move to Spurs last month, only for those plans to be placed on ice during his Olympic exploits.
In that time, Spurs instead turned their attention to Cristian Romero, and the 23-year-old was announced as a Tottenham player on Friday following his arrival from Atalanta BC.
Tottenham are being tipped to reignite their interest in Tomiyasu with a new bid of £17m, but according to Corriere dello Sport, Arsenal are also in talks with the 22-year-old's camp over a possible move.
The report adds that Bologna want Tomiyasu's situation to be resolved by August 20 at the latest, and the player's representatives are simply aiming to secure the centre-back a Premier League move, whether it be to Arsenal, Spurs or elsewhere.
Tomiyasu - who made three appearances for Japan at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics - has scored three goals and set up three more in 63 appearances for Bologna since 2019.
