Barnsley announce that they have sacked head coach Markus Schupp after a run of 13 games without a victory in the Championship.

Barnsley have announced that they have parted company with head coach Markus Schopp.

The Austrian was brought in as the summer replacement for Valerien Ismael, who accepted the West Bromwich Albion job having guided the Tykes to a surprise place in the Championship playoffs.

However, Schopp has failed to build on the work of his predecessor, Barnsley sitting in 23rd position with just eight points from 15 matches.

In an official statement, the 47-year-old said: "I would like to thank all those who have accompanied me in this short but very intense time.

"It is a pity that our hard work was not reflected in the results. I wish the club all the best for the future and that they will achieve all their goals."

Barnsley have revealed that Joseph Laumann, Schopp's assistant at Oakwell, will take charge of Wednesday's fixture against Derby County.
