Bayern Munich turn on the style in second half against Olympiacos

Bayern Munich overcome Olympiacos' stubborn resistance to eventually record a 3-0 victory in their Champions League group stage opener.

Bayern Munich overcame Olympiacos' stubborn resistance to eventually record a 3-0 victory in the Champions League tonight.

Brown Ideye had a great chance to open the scoring for Olympiacos, but he could only head the ball straight into the hands of Manuel Neuer from close range.

Douglas Costa had a slight chance on goal before Robert Lewandowski was smartly saved by the legs of Roberto Jimenez Gago as Munich found their attack thwarted time and again by the Greeks.

Thomas Muller finally got Bayern in front just after the break when a cross meant for Lewandowski evaded everyone on its way over the goalkeeper's head and into the top corner.

Muller saw a volley blocked after being played in by the superb Xabi Alonso, before Leandro Salino failed to convert a one-on-one which would have dragged his side back into the game.

Substitute Mario Gotze all but ended Olympiacos' defiance one minute from time, the young attacker sliding the ball into the net, but the game was not over there.

Kingsley Coman won a stoppage-time penalty for the visitors with some clever footwork inside the box and Muller converted to put gloss on the final score.

Munich will host Dinamo Zagreb on September 29 in their next Champions League match.
