Benfica hold on to go through to Europa League final

Benfica hold on for a goalless draw against Juventus to go through to the Europa League final where they will meet Sevilla.

Benfica held on to progress to the Europa League final at the expense of Juventus this evening.

A goalless draw was enough for the Portuguese side, who finished the game with nine men, as they went through thanks to last week's 2-1 win at home against the Italians.

Andrea Pirlo went close for the home side when he latched on to the ball on the edge of the box before his effort was well saved by Benfica goalkeeper Artur.

Arturo Vidal then struck a powerful volley on 19 minutes, but the Chilean midfielder's effort was too high to trouble the goal.

Carlos Tevez was next to try his luck for the Bianconeri, but his volley inside the area was again too high, before Paul Pogba scuffed a long-range shot wide.

Leonardo Bonucci spurned another chance for Juve when he headed Pirlo's free kick wide towards the end of the half.

It was Vidal's chance at the death of the first half which went closest, however, but this time his header was cleared off the line in stoppage time.

After the break, Enzo Perez was sent off by referee Mark Clattenburg for two bookable offences in quick succession, but Juventus were unable to make their numerical advantage count.

The Serie A leaders had a goal ruled out with nine minutes remaining with replays showing that Pogba was in an offside position to deny Pablo Daniel Osvaldo the all-important goal.

Mirko Vucinic was sent off for Juventus in the final moments, while Lazar Markovic also saw red as Jorge Jesus's team finished with nine men.
