Neil Warnock aiming for Cardiff City promotion

New Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock admits that he is looking to get Cardiff City promoted back to the Premier League.

New Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock has admitted that he has one eye on getting the club promoted back to the Premier League.

The 67-year-old was appointed as the Bluebirds' new boss earlier today following the dismissal of Paul Trollope on Tuesday with the side one place from bottom in the Championship.

Warnock has an impressive seven promotions on his CV, including to the Premier League with Sheffield United in 2005-06 and Queens Park Rangers in 2009-10.

"I've got seven promotions and, I must admit, I wanted that eighth promotion," Warnock told the Cardiff website. "I do enjoy challenges, and the challenge is to get the team higher up the league and see where we go. I'm confident in my ability and in Kevin [Blackwell] and Ronnie [Jepson], who have come with me to get the best out of the players.

"I look at the squad and know they have the ability - I do believe they have the potential to compete with anybody in the league. I'm looking forward to bringing some confidence back into the whole club.

"Rest assured, I'll be doing my very best to provide the entertainment. I want the fans to go home talking about the shots, the saves and the offsides. The manager going stupid on the touchline. That's what I love about football."

Warnock's first game in charge will be a local derby with high-flying Bristol City at the Cardiff City Stadium on October 14.
