Thibaut Courtois: 'Fans booing does not help Chelsea players'

Courtois: 'Fans booing doesn't help'

Thibaut Courtois urges Chelsea supporters to get behind their side rather than "booing and whistling" when things go wrong.

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has criticised supporters for booing following Saturday's stalemate with Leicester City.

Blues fans made their displeasure known in the wake of a third goalless draw in the space of a week, as their side struggled to unpick 10-man Leicester.

Some sections of the Stamford Bridge crowd also let out gasps of frustration during the contest when Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas lost possession, which Courtois insists is no help to the players.

Speaking to Chelsea TV, the Belgian keeper said: "I know we as a team didn't have a good game, it was our third goalless draw, but we need the fans here at Stamford Bridge to get behind the team and not, when a player has a bad pass or a bad shot, start booing and whistling.

"I don't think we're playing a bad season. It's important that the fans must know that we want to play out from the back. And they don't have to get nervous.

"If they start shouting it doesn't help us. [Against Leicester there] was too much of that. When we play out from the back it's important for us that they know that we want to do that. There's a risk involved and we know that, but that's our game."

Chelsea, winless in four games overall, return to action in midweek with an FA Cup third-round replay against Norwich City.
