The Three Lions have met the Eastern European nation on two previous occasions, during what turned out to be Steve McClaren's ill-fated Euro 2008 qualifying campaign.

Here, Sports Mole has looked back over both of those encounters.

Estonia 0-3 England - June 6, 2007

When McClaren took charge of the Three Lions from Sven-Goran Eriksson following the nation's exit from the 2006 World Cup, he made a big statement in dropping David Beckham from the squad. Yet, the former Manchester United winger was recalled to the fold in the summer of 2007 by McClaren for the friendly with Brazil, where he would set up the winning goal for John Terry, before he went on to start in Estonia.

There was a little bit of pressure on the head coach following recent failings to beat Croatia and Israel, but that was eased in the 36th minute when Joe Cole volleyed in. Eight minutes after the restart, Beckham assisted Crouch, who looped a header over Mart Poom. Another cross from Beckham resulted in England's third goal of the contest when Michael Owen converted at the back post. It was the striker's first international goal since he suffered a knee ligament injury at the previous year's World Cup.

After the match, McClaren said of Beckham: "David was immense. He has set up three of the four goals we have scored since he came back and that's why he's in the team."

Meanwhile, Beckham added: "I believe I can play for this team as long as I am allowed to. If this carries on then great. But I've enjoyed the last couple of weeks being in the team and with the lads. There has been a great atmosphere."

England 3-0 Estonia - October 13, 2007

As far as England were concerned, Wayne Rooney lit up Euro 2004. There is even a school of thought that had he not broken his foot during the quarter-final clash with hosts Portugal, the Three Lions could have gone all the way. However, after that, the Manchester United frontman struggled to produce the goods, so much so that when Estonia visited Wembley over three years later, he hadn't scored a competitive goal since that tournament in Portugal.

He ended that drought, though, in the 32nd minute when his low shot deflected into the net. By then, the deadlock had already been broken by Shaun Wright-Phillips, who fired through Poom's legs from a narrow angle. The scoring was then completed with 33 minutes played when Taavi Rahn headed Ashley Cole's cross into his own goal from the edge of the area.

McClaren told reporters after the final whistle: "It was a professional performance and we won it in the first 20 minutes. I am delighted with some individual performances. We have to move on quickly."
