Manchester United will post record low points tally

Last night's defeat to Manchester City means that Manchester United will set a record low Premier League points tally this season.

David Moyes has endured a difficult first season in charge of Manchester United.

It has been a term of unwanted records broken by United under Moyes's guidance, the latest of which was sealed courtesy of last night's 3-0 defeat to rivals Manchester City at Old Trafford.

The loss means that United can only post a maximum points tally of 72 between now and the end of the campaign, which will be a Premier League low for the Red Devils. Twelve months ago, on their way to a 20th league title, United had 74 points.

Their previous poorest return was 75, which they set in 1996-97 and 2003-04, finishing first and third respectively.

Moyes has now overseen 10 Premier League defeats in one season - another first for the club.
