Cristiano Ronaldo backs "fantastic" Louis van Gaal to deliver titles

Cristiano Ronaldo backs "fantastic" Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal to eventually win Premier League titles with the Red Devils.

Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo has described Louis van Gaal as a "fantastic coach" and has backed the Dutchman to deliver a league title to Old Trafford.

Van Gaal got his United career off to an indifferent start as the Red Devils sit eighth in the Premier League table after dropping 12 points already this season.

Nevertheless, Ronaldo, who won three league titles under former manager Sir Alex Ferguson, says that Van Gaal will bring the glory days back to the club providing he is given time to do so.

"Van Gaal is a fantastic coach and I am certain he will make United champions again – if not this year then very soon after that," the Real Madrid ace is quoted as saying by The Mirror.

"Sir Alex Ferguson said that Van Gaal will need time - and he is right. Because, in the beginning at United, even Sir Alex didn't win anything for a few years.

"To get a good squad and a good team takes time, so lets give Van Gaal the time he needs."

United host league leaders and odds-on title favourites Chelsea at Old Trafford this afternoon.
