Report: Arsenal, Manchester United want Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez

Arsenal and Manchester United are set to battle for the signature of 21-year-old Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez, according to reports.

Arsenal have joined the race to sign Atletico Madrid centre-back Jose Gimenez, according to reports.

The 21-year-old, who has only made a handful of appearances this season at the Vicente Calderon, is under contract with Los Colchoneros until 2018.

According to the The Sun, the Gunners have earmarked Gimenez to supplement Shkodran Mustafi and Laurent Koscielny at the heart of their defence.

Jose Mourinho, meanwhile, is also said to rate the Uruguayan highly, and wants him to strengthen a backline left reeling by several injuries.

Gimenez's Atletico release clause is reportedly set at £54m.
