Sampdoria, Fiorentina share goalless draw

Sampdoria and Fiorentina share a goalless draw in their Serie A match at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris in Genoa.

Sampdoria and Fiorentina have played a goalless draw in their Serie A match at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris in Genoa this afternoon.

Eder had a great chance to open the scoring early on for the hosts, but after being picked out in the box by Lorenzo De Silvestri, he placed an effort wide of the post.

The home side were taking the game to their opponents as Manolo Gabbiadini forced Neto to turn his powerful free kick wide of the post.

Matias Fernandez was close to finding the net for the visitors when his curling strike went inches wide of the top corner, before Juan Cuadrado saw his close-range header saved by Angelo da Costa Junior.

Nenad Krsticic threatened from distance just before the break, but his strike was gathered by the keeper.

Sampdoria started the second half strongly as Maxi Lopez drilled in a low strike that had to be tuned around the post by Neto.

They continued to create the better of the chances, as Angelo Palombo whistled a shot just wide of the post with Neto at full stretch.

Against the run of play Fiorentina almost took the lead when Juan Manuel Vargas smashed a long-range free kick against the crossbar.

Alessandro Matri came close to finding a winner for the visitors in stoppage time, but he headed wide of the far post.
